Who is the Sinister Spinster?
My name is Molly Keran (she/her). I’m a voracious romance novel reader who has a Ph.D. in English Language & Literature (you can find out more about my research here). I’m from Nebraska, currently live in Michigan, and spent a good chunk of my young adulthood in the Bay Area of California. When I’m not reading or doing research, I’m probably working on my own novel, putting stickers in my planner, solving a crossword puzzle, or maybe just watching New Girl for approximately the 200th time.
FAQ:
Are you really a spinster? Yes. I’m in my 30s, unmarried, and am obsessed with my cat. You decide.
What is your cat’s name? Willow, after the Taylor Swift song. She’s a sweetie pie (except when she’s not). I also used to have a cat named Felix, the gentlest little baby of all time, and he’s the one I’m holding in the picture above.
What kind of romance do you read? I will read almost anything if it appeals to me or if it’s recommended by someone whose taste I trust, but I primarily read historicals. That said, I’ve made an effort over the past few months to venture outside my comfort zone and have read not only a lot more contemporaries, but also some sci-fi/alien romance, fantasy romance, paranormal romance, and more.
What about queer and trans romance? When I say I read romance, I mean it; that doesn’t mean just straight cis romance. With queer and trans romance, I do tend to mostly (but not exclusively) read historicals.
What is your favorite romance novel of all time? Impossible to answer but somewhere in the top three are The Countess Conspiracy by Courtney Milan, An Unconditional Freedom by Alyssa Cole, and the entirety of Joanna Bourne’s Spymaster series just taken as a whole. (Is that cheating?) But truly, I love so many romance novels that I have an entire page dedicated just to listing my faves.
Okay, but why are you sinister? Stick around and find out.
